I thought the same thing - sick or dead. I can't imagine a goldfish falling prey to a spider otherwise.

I have watched these spiders eat small goldfish, of course can't find the picture. I have a pic of one snacking on a fry about 1.5 inches in size. They are all over the lilies in the summer. I chase them away from me if I am in the pond.
