I have a pond in direct sun light and this year blanket weed has been a major major problem. Would putting up a pagoda help, if so slightly or massively

Sun only ignites a bloom of string algae. The main culprit is too much nutrients in the water.

Three main causes are too many or too many large fish one large koi poops more than 100 3 inch fish. .
Feeding too much. Now you have to realize fish do not have a stomache where they can shove a lot of food in and work on digesting it until it's gone in 4 hours like our selves. So if you feed them say ten pellets of food those expand at least 4 times there size when they get wet. So those tiny pellets in our eyes add up. But not having a stomach as more food gets into the digestive track food that first made it in gets pushed out before it is fully digested. Causing for those nutrients , uneaten food which feeds blanket weed.

Third and equaly as important is lack of plants. Man can create all sorts of machines and technologies to remove excess nutrients from the water. And some work great. But mother nature does it so much easier and cheaper. Plants thrive when we give them ammonia, nitrates, phosphates, Co2. ( Check, check , and check. Fish and their waste too much food and not feeding multiple times very small amounts or at all. Goldfish can do very well just picking at the algae ( peach fuzz on your rocks or walls. Koi need a bit more. But they are both grazers they don't usualy find massive concentrations of food in a pellet they like cattle need to work at it constantly eating.

Is your filter system up to par? If your not using a filter that's designed for 3 times your volume , your more than likely under the amount you should be.

Welp. There's your issue. Your fish are too big and you have too many for your small pond. Reduce your bioload or watch mother nature do it for you.
