With the recent deaths of dogs from exposure to blue green algae in the lakes and ponds here in Georgia, how do we know if it could be in our ponds? Our pond has always been prone to have algae, both string and the kind that grows on the rocks. The dogs like to drink out of our pond, so it’s concerning

I'm not 100% sure but I think the dangerous stuff grows in still water - less likely to grow in moving, filtered water. Has anyone heard anything to confirm that? Or contradict it?

Blue-green algae isn't algae at all - it's cynobacteria. And if you had it you'd know it - it's slimy and green and would take over our pond surface quickly. And your fish would be affected.
