Ok so I have a 315 gallon rectangular pond. 7ft x 2 ft and 3 ft deep. I have 7 comets in there at about 9 inches long. My pump is 800gal/hr. I have a filter b4 my water spillway. It has a uv light and bio media filtration pads. I want to make a bog filter with a 40gal plastic tub.

My questions are.
Do I need both the bog filter and pressurized filter. If yes then what is the best way to set it up. I was thinking of running a Y connection to feed both bog and pressurized filter. Not sure if my pump is strong enough.
Or would it be best to use 2 separate pumps. I attached a couple pics

you can use just a presurized filter as long as it is big enough and get one that you can backflush . You can also use a stock tank filter and put plants in it with lava rock as filter stone . Just don't over feed yur fish With your it would probably be better presurized so you can hide it behind plants or maybe a fake rock that they put over well heads . You can even build your own fake hollow rock yourself . There are lots of videos on youtube and on here . cement a box and chicken wire . You could ebven use a planter pot and fake it up

Do you need both? No. Will it hurt anything to have both? No. They do serve two separate purposes - your bog filter will provide strictly biological filtration, while the pressure filter will add mechanical filtration. Whether you use both is up to you. If I had to choose, I would use the bog only because it's an added water feature that adds beauty. The pressure filter just needs to be disguised.

I would also add that I have yet to see a pressure filter that gets good user reviews. Either they are hard to clean, hard to assemble, or they fail quickly - or all three. Hopefully you'll have good luck with yours if you choose to use it.

I think I will try both. The filter in the pic is the same as the one I own. Easy to clean.
Thanks for the input

I always feel like 2 is better than 1 . I have 2 pumps going to 2 filters one on each end of the pond . I had a pressurized filter but the bigger your pond is the bigger filter you neen . I still have both pressurized filters in my basement and may use one on the preformed pond but really can't hide it that well because of banana plants . Not sure i need a filter in it since all that lives in it are frogs and their tadpoles. I took a whole 5 gallon bucket to a pond this morning for a new wedding venue place , because their pond is and bridge over it are for pics . they were having a major problem with mosquitos and someone gave them my name and number so they got taddies

Hands down i would use both. Use the pressure filter to feed the bog. Filters that small generally don't do such a great job . Which is perfect because you realy don't want to take out everything before you send to the bog. So use the outfeed to push the water to the bottom of the bog. .burry half the preseaure filter to help hide it
