We have started our new bog garden filter. We had to take out our waterfall as we had the hillside behind it wash out and a lot of sand wash into the pond. The bog will be 10x3x1.5 and built out of 4x4s with a 45mil liner. I havve run 1- 1/5 in. pvc across the bottom-2 lines supplied from the main pond with a 955GPH pump. Now the big project is to rinse 3200lbs. of pea gravel and get it in place! Already have tadpoles in the bog as a frog decided to check out the new digs and lay some eggs! Haven't decided how to have the flow go back to the main pond yet but looking at using a plastic windowbox as a weir. Also installed the pressurized filter in the bog as a means to stabilize it. I had it on the deck behind the pond but had to keep it in a milkcrate to keep it upright. Not sure how this will help my filtration but the waterfall had all the bog plants in it and was overgrown and a mess to clean out. When I say we I mean amy husband and myself BUT I am the pond person and he is just doing some of the heavy labor. (Not into the pond).

38 bags of gravel down and 42 to go! Have the plants ready to go in as soon as we are done. Cannas, calla-lily, ornamental grass, iris and dragon tail. Then the landscaping begins.

47 bags of gravel down and 33 to go! I have some large planting baskets for pond plants that have holes the size of window screens. I can do 20 lbs. at a time so 160 trips to finish it all. I dump it into the baskets and hose it down. Hubby is moving the bags from the driveway to the pond. Wtill have to work out the landscaping to keep any more dirt from washing out.

Thanks koiguy-
I've got 950 GPH actually going up thru the gravel. I've got 2900gph going thru the pressurized filter with UV thats buried in the bog and 3400 going thru a Savio biofilter off the back of the pond. My electric coop loves me!

Nice job, very well planned. So this is filtering your pond with Koi?

Dr. Dave-
I'm hoping this will help with the filtration. I am using 2 other filters as well. The waterfall didn't work out as it caught a lot of runoff and had to be cleaned out twice a year.

Me too, this is worthy of a try. It is similar to a plan I was going to do but without all the pea gravel. Her undergravel flow is an interresting concept.
