I have seen bogs on you tube that look like a forest that you could never get through .I guess people think the fuller the bog is with plants the better .Just like the banana plant I had in my one filter it looked healthy and was growing .But when I pulled it out I realized the roots were over 6 feet long and it was wicking water out of my pond and guessing that could happen with a bog also

I just re-built the bog last spring and had to thin it this fall.

Its true though all bed benefit from thinning whether a bog or a regular old dirt bed.

Thinning out your plant filter is also a great method of removing phosphorous and nitrate from your pond.
No pesky, stressful water changes needed....:whistle:;)
