How do you guys and gals maintain your bog?. ( not looking to for get rid of plants more of plumbing/cleaning )

I am still new to the bog game a few months in . I love it and i finally have clear water after 8 years of struggling/learning to just keep stuff alive.

So I have this 100g stock tank i made to be my active bog filter to feed my waterfall/stream. 2-3 weeks after going live with it i had to empty it as the feed manifold got clogged by roots small stuff etc ( laguna 3,200gph pump just the cage no prefilter). empty bog rocks etc re did it and about 3-5 weeks latter i noticed its clogged again clean it out again got sand type substance clogging it. ( since we used some native rocks found on our property i am double checking for sand stone ( pretty sure the sand is from me being in a hurry and not cleaning the gravel correctly ))

So on this last clean out I modified the bog tank. raised the floor to have about 5" of just water other than intake manifold, bubbling / agator for cleaning out along with a pipe for shop vac cleaning.

I am able to ball valve close the main manifold and force the overflow pipe to a 2 part system 1 part being close the main let fill and bubble out crap to a side pipe to the lawn. the 2nd part is to utilize the over flow pipe for winter and go right back to the pond and by pass the stream to prevent ice dams.

the by pass "winter pipe" is only attached for winter.

First of all, you absolutely need some form of prefiltration.
Secondly is this an upflow 'bog' or a downflow 'bog'?

please define upflow or downflow. ( I am assuming i have a upflow)

pump is in pond with about 15' of head up to bottom of bog tank. inlet for pump is on bottom of the tank and opening of in water manifold faces down. currently after the" 5" open floor space" of just water it goes to gravel and plants. The out flow for main and overflow are near the top of the tank.

I can "back flush" now

I also can blow air to agitate and kick out the gunk to the lawn.

I can edit my pics tomorrow to better explain if need

I had pretty much deduced as much from your photos. Just to clarify, you have water flowing into the bottom of this tank and you also have water flowing into the top of this tank.
Where is the outflow for this 'bog'? Top or bottom?
