I find that after a few months the 18w UV lamp on my raised filter is failing to kill the algae. The bulb has a smoky brown coating, as is the inner surface of the quartz glass tube covering it. I have tried cleaning them to no avail.
I would welcome any advice.

Thank you.

Personally I'd take it up with the company who made the U'V-c which one is it by th way ?
Also are you sure your bulb is the correct wattage because the brown staining should only be on the bulb and not the crystal sleave ?

You could remove the sleave for cleaning then very gently give it a clean in white spirit with a plastic scourer before washing it ever so gently drying it then reasemble the whole thing.
Buti till can understand the same staining of both the UV-C and crystal sleave
