hello! we're converting our pond (with a cracked hard plastic liner) to go pondless, with a few adjustments to our waterfall. I prefer the look & style that has a few inches of standing water. And this is probably a dumb question, but how do you build it so that happens? It seems like most videos or tutorials I find have disappearing water. Any tips are appreciated. Thanks!

The beginning of this video will give you an idea on how to accomplish the look you are looking for. Rest of the video is good for edging ideas also.

No problem. there are others on here (looking at you @GBBUDD ) who can help you with a bib liner.

using aquablocks or whatever as described in that video is probably only one way.
Aquablocks as structural blocks are definitely one way placement the top and bottom are full panels all the way edge to edge. But take my word for it there are a million and one uses for Aquablocks.

Disappearing water flow through the gravel is built the same as what your looking for but with either a bib liner above the pump vault where the pump is and also the reservoir that keeps the falls from running dry and or when the power shuts off theres a place for the water that is in motion to go and be stored waiting for the power to go on. This is where many go wrong they don't make the pump vault big enough. it has to be able to handle water that does not get trapped in pools and when it makes it to the pump vault it has to be big enough to store all the water that was flowing on the falls and the water that is needed to keep the falls running when the power goes back on. A automatic water replacement system is an other option.

To make the pool at the bottom you can make the pump vault and then burry it a bit deeper so SET what ever depth you want in the pool plus gravel for the base. you simply make THE BIB LINER a bit smaller generally like a foot so the water over flows and drops into the pump vault aquablocks that makes the pool the edges are buried within the gravel. and as the water comes in it over flows and drops through the rocks that are outside the bib liner

I built a shallow pool with a bubbler using a flexible pond liner. I dug several inches down to allow some water to sit above the rocks. Mine flows into a very short stream into a pond so the water gets pumped from the pond back up to the bubbler but I think you could do something similar without the stream & pond.
