Setting in back yard with the wife and saw one of our baby catbird drop and make an awkward flight from the tree to edge of pond. I went over to help it if fell in water and saw that a giant bullfrog had caught it! I briefly had hold of the frog but it got away later I saw it dropped the bird as it was floating in the pond. That's nature, brutality mixed with beauty! I certainly wish I could have caught this on film. A few tears back a thought I was saving my bullfrog from choking when I pulled a dead half grown Robin out of its mouth. I assumed he found it dead, now I know they catch and kill them. For the record today's bird never fell in the pond, the frog got him before that!

Another reason I hate frogs. I don't mind the green ones I got but the day I spot a bullfrog.. it's gone.

I once saw a frog eating another frog, I never knew they were cannibals!
Another time I touched a tiny baby frog to help it jump in the pond, cause it was having difficulties clearing the step, and it let out a scream so loud it gave me goosebumps! I had to do it again to believe it, it sure came from the tiny frog!

We dont have your problem with our frogs but American Bullfrogs are now on sale in the UK pet trade so its only a while before some idiot lets them free into a pond .
Thankfully we have a deadly frog virus in the UK that rots frogs who have it alive , I doubt the American bullfrogs would have immunity against this

I would like to clarify that I'm glad to have this little monster. He is just another pond inhabitant. As long as he doesn't get big enough to eat Koi then he can have all the birds he wants!

We start every spring with lots of little frogs. Soon enough one or two big bullfrogs will move in and eat all the little guys. Then the big guys leave and we will start seeing little frogs again. The cycle of life I guess!

Yup. I like the bullfrog anyway, they are far more visible and amusing. In any case when the big black snakes show up all I have left are big black snakes! Six footers.

That's just a common green frog. I have quite a few of those too, even with my bullfrogs.

Good. Thanks. My paranoia level is up. Anyway I bought a koi. We'll see how many frogs hang around in the future.. Wanna see the new kid?
