Hello again and thanks to all the folks who have helped me answer some questions regarding my bog filter build. So my 40 gal tub is 13 inches tall . Has anyone heard of burying them halfway. I was thinking of burying mine to help conceal it and attaching a couple elbows to the cleanout to bring it up to ground level. I know this won't drain as good but I was thinking of attaching a small shop vac to assist with the cleanout. Any thoughts ,ideas are appreciated. Thank you. I have attached a small sketch

That would probably work with the limitations you mention. I have some Rubbermaid tubs buried half way but I have a slope so was able to keep the drains exposed without the snorkel.

The disadvantage is you loose height to make a waterfall . Your loosing the energy needed to pump the water is wasted by not making as big as waterfall as it could be weather one drop or multiple

Our bog is completely buried, but it's in a raised bed garden that is 3 feet above pond level.

That whole situation started as a homeowners nightmare - the main electrical line was run through our backyard before our house was built. The idiot builder decided to scrape us down 3 feet and build our house below grade. But the electrical line wasn't moving so they left us with a giant pile of dirt in the backyard. We fought them at closing and the resolution was they would come back and put in retention walls along the whole back and one side of our yard. Now we had a usable yard.

Year one my husband nicked the main line with a tiller - that could have been my meal ticket! - which led to another fight with the electric company, as the line we were told was 3 feet underground AND COULD NEVER BE MOVED was more like 6 inches deep. Took me two years but one day they showed up with a trencher and buried the whole thing 6 feet deep. So while we didn't get the backyard we thought we would have, we at least had something we could garden in. And eventually build both a pondless waterfall and a bog with waterfall. Who would have guessed??

Everyone told me I would never win. Don't ever tell me never.

Turns out this is how it has to be. (See pic) Pretty much sitting on top of garden. I forgot I had a cement curb around my pond I forgot about. Does anyone here know if I can run my 800gal per hour pump to feed my bog and a separate waterfall spillway. Bog filter is 40 gal. Pond is 315 gal. Attach a Y connection to split the water between the 2 perhaps

That may work ok if it is a small waterfall, also may need a valve to control between the outputs. Pump flow can go down fast with head loss. Looks like a couple of feet to get over the edge of your bog tub? I'd give it a try with what you have, could always get another pump if needed.

Some calcs that may help you figure your waterfall effect:
