In particular I want pictures of the bog to pond proportions, how the bog water flows back to the pond, and the divider area between the pond and bog. I also would like to see intake bays and how you connected the pump to the waterfall and bog.

I have made 3 minibogs myself from masonry tubs, and feel confident about how to do the PVC piping set up and gravel, and plantings.

What I need help with is how to show the in ground bog to pond set up. In particular, having the bog level raised above the pond by at least a few inches all around. How much higher should it be to work best?

I may hire a pond builder, but I hope to try it myself with a much simpler waterfall area with rocks I can handle, just in case I can make something I love. I am intimidated about building my own intake bay. But maybe I should at least try it all on my own, just hiring help for the big dig.

I prefer the piping all run within the pond so if there is a leak in the pipes it doesn't drain the system.

Thank you for any pics and tips.

You should have it at least 6" above to prevent wicking. After that, it's up to your vision. I chose to have mine 12" above and the facia wall is made of stacked sandstone. Below, pics; during construction, closeup and then a total view from the patio.

Here is mine, winter, best time to see size etc. It filters 10 ponds, 2 in the stream 2 on the deck.

We used one huge liner, put down rows of landscape timbers between the pond and bog. Anchored with rebar and concrete on the ends. The liner covered both the bog and the pond. It is raised about 1 foot above the pond and waterfalls back into the pond, via dribbles over the entire wall and the flat water fall rock.

Part of the big pond is not see able as there is a 4 foot wall towards the house, had to dig down to make a level spot.

The pump is behind the green bushes, external pump, sends water into the bog on the right end of the pond and bog. No intake bay, just pipes going into the bog, never had a leak issue with those pipes in 10 years.

Basic, pvc lines, pea grave and liner. And of course plants.

Are you planning something pretty large? Or small to medium? I like watching The Pond Advisor on YouTube. He is in the UK and has done some nice re-dos of smallish ponds to include intake bays. Of course, Team Aquascape has very fun videos but the scale is usually really large! Still, the basic principles are the same. Between the excellent advice you get on here - and some how-to videos - you will be all set!

Mine is a bit odd since my new pond is not like my old pond. It’s above ground and the bog is above ground.

Thank you all for sharing your pics. A picture is worth more than a 1000 words to describe a pond and bog!

This was taken when the pond was being built, before the bog was planted. I don't have any recent pics.
