dual function
  1. circulate 3000gph
  2. remove 800sf of roof water from running down foundations (no gutters and we don't want them)
the basins around the porch take the 800sf.

complicate ordeal here
pump->filter->scuppers->basins->canals->stream->pond->3" siphon pipe->intake bay (77gal hdx)->pump
2" supply
3" siphon return (reduced my trenching depth)

atypically there's cmu block inside the liner and brick, 15 and 700 respectively, lots of possible air pockets. the bluestone seat/shelf is partially mortar down

sequence 5800seq21
Aqua Ultima II - 3000

all hand work no machines
pond is 13x7 above shelf, and 11x5 down low.

Surprised, I never saw this before but I have been away for 6 months and have not kept close tabs on the site.
Keeping an area opening the ice is not that hard. Whether you use a strong air pump or a pond breather/ heater which I'm hearing are getting harder to find as more accidents happen with them due to people not using their heads.
I use only an air pump an nitto 120 ( on the stronger side of piston hybrid pumps. I use to use a air bladder but have gone to just having a 3/4 inch pipe just dumping air Ina foot of water. The fish hang around the bottom at 4 to 6 foot zone.
I have added a nano bead filter gctech 6.3 and I shut that down I do not see enough flow moving around even at the approximate 5 000 gph I throw at it..
Im sure you noticed that the bead filter had less and less September to October to November. Nothing is growing and the fish waste is next no nothing. Thus I shut down the bead filter.i usually would have left the main bog running but that too got shut down due to my travels.
I have a second bog with a small 2000 gph pump in the cistern. If i should have a complete freeze and ice jamb only the cistern and possibly the pump would burn out.

I do not think I would run a bead filter through the winter. The 2 inch pipes I see you have I would not be too concerned with, seeing as there's good flow but the bead is much like the waterfalls even though the water is moving to a degree. It will start to freeze around the edges. Not worth the gamble in my eyes as the filter is doing next to nothing.

How ever shutting down does create possible freezing of the pipes. After being a gc for many years I have seen many a pipe with ice in it that was not closed up . A pipe that has somewhere for the expansion to go and not create such pressures this far has worked for me. I could blow out my return jets. But to block the main drains is next to impossible without a wetsuit and that's just not in the cards if it does freeze it will be up along the edge of the pond running to the pump. This is where I open the union on the check valve alowing the pressure to escape.

Redundancy is key in this hobby. Options for conditions or changes in design or even seasons is key to success.

Im at the junction of 691 so not that far from the Portland bridge.

So you did all concrete no liner? I didn't see any reinforcing rebar or is that just not show?
I've been thinking about changing the bottom of my pond to concrete and stone to collect more waste quicker..

Well now you have two expensive hobbies side by side. I have 50 year old abandoned tracks next to me. Talk about getting expensive if i made them workable.

I mortared it before the 45 mil liner. so it’s liner over 2” of type s mortar. the mortar was only to stabilize my excavation and make the rest of the job easier.

dirt->mortar->liner->dry stacked masonry. we will see how the filter bead filter does this winter lol.

I have a bit of block wall to my build but as always I took it to the 9s footings with rebar block with rebar every other bay and then poured with concrete. I did scarify the top edges of the block and skim coating any variations. 7 years latter alls well.

My dogs use to go in a lot. But now rarely. Though on a hot day they will be found up laying in the stream.

When things start to warm and come back to life we'll have to hook up, and talk shop

spring of year 2 after clearing up the cloudy mess by running my flow control valve open at 100% for 2 days. swept the bottom, stream rocks, and masonry sides with a broom.

Looks like you removed all the bio film. I'd go slow adding fish
