Cat tails not happy

This year I bought a couple of smaller variety cat tails to put in my bog. I put them with the crowns about 2 inches under water. They never really grew and eventually the green leaves turned brown. Did I plant them at the wrong depth? Do you think they will come back next spring?

I’d lift them up a bit and yes - I bet they will come back. I’ve been yanking some that strayed from my big for about four years now - they keep coming back for more!

Mine are stuck in between the rocks around my pond w/just their feet in the water. They come back each year. I have the mini ones.

I have mini cat tails but they never grew any cat tails.
They were in the pond for years. When I added the bog a couple years ago I moved them over to there, but still no cat tails.

ALMOST ALL PLANTS THAT I KNOW of if they have a clear crown are very picky about being buried too deep i did this intentionally
with the papyrus and those that were below water line grew up to the surface or they grew off the side of shots that were hanging low.
