Are there any really colourful easily available pond fish that don't grow too large and are peaceful? I'm trying to get some new fish for my 55 gallon patio pond but I want something a bit more unique than more goldfish, perhaps a school of something?

Problem is winter. If your willing to move fish inside in fall look up Neon Tetra. I think with your size almost any fish would need to be moved inside for winter. 50 gallons would freeze solid.

Rainbow darters, green sided darters and banded darters, orange throat darters.

All small, winter outside and have lotsa colors on them. They will remain at the bottom of the pond.

Thanks for the replies everyone! I managed to grab a few fish from my local bait store! They seem pretty cool but I'm unsure of their species. Probably some type of shiner.
