hey im completely new to ponds but have a 75g reef tank so i have some experience in keeping aquatic life. is there any newbie articles that i should read?
i am trying to help get my parents pond back into a pond that actually works and sustains life. the pond gets tons of leafs in it and gets very dirty, how do i prevent the leafs from getting to the bottom of the tank? the pond has a canister filter, i know that canister filters are a no no in reefs but are they alright in ponds? a net of some sort?

I recommend the use of a net to prevent leaves from falling in.

use a surface skimmer or a net

The actually make a skimmer net. I have one, they are great for newly hatched koi as well. They are so small when hatched they go right through most nets.
