Hello everyone, Please excuse the length of post.
I am constructing a new pond and will be stocking it with ducks instead of fish. I am not to sure how I am to do this as I am dealing with ducks instead of fish. The water is well water so is essentially free then and all I have to pay for is the electricity to pump the water in the pond. The pond is going to be around 26,000 gallons and will accommodate 6 ducks. How I am to keep this thing clean with minimal maintenance and reasonable costs. I am thinking about supplying excellent aeration with a pump that will be used to create a waterfall. This pump would be located in a skimmer box. I would put a second pump in the lowest spot in the pond so it takes water from the bottom and throws it on top via fountain to create good aeration and circulation.
The pond will have an overflow drain and automatic water fill on it. It would also have another water hose going into it with an automatic on off valve on it like a sprinkler system so I can add new water automatically to it when needed. I would program this valve to turn on and off daily to the length of time daily so that it supplies the pond with 26000 gallons of new water every 2 weeks.
So essentially all I would have to do is clean out the skimmer box as needed. Will this system be stable and healthy to the ducks or will it fail. Algae and bacteria etc. should be kept low because of the aeration and water change but I am not sure if it will be exceptable. There food (corn, wheat, etc) will also be located away from the pond.
