Recently we were asked to move some fish there were 18 greater than 20" koi and approx 45 12 inches and smaller comet/shubunkins, etc. - we had to drain the 21,000 gal pond too - and the water quality was 1/2" visibility. Each trip was 40 miles roundtrip and all equipment was to be supplied by us other than electricity and freshwater.

Also, two days after the original transport we were to catch 40 smaller fish and bring them to a friend's pond and release them.

I am unsure what to charge - the job came up and we were available - there was not much time to think - we have never done this before, but are avid ponders....any assistance or knowledge of what something like this would cost would be ever so appreciated.

Thank you - El

My pond (approx 11,000 gallons) had an apparent liner leak, and contained approximately 200 goldfish from 12 inch to fingerlings, it took 3 honest days to drain the pond and catch the fish to transfer to our swimming pool/holding pond two people.

Now how are you going to transport the fish, trying to bag 70 fish is crazy and with 1/2 inch visibility there's probably some where between half again to twice that many fish in the pond? I'm thinking your going to need something like a couple 150 gallon stock tanks or 3 or 4 70 gallon totes, that's a ton of water and probably a couple trips in most scenarios.

After that your going to have to quarantine for a while, then sort out the "Smaller ones" for restocking, what happens to the bigger Koi and are they realistically resalable.

If this is a job for a friend that your charging for so he doesn't feel embarrassed, charge at least a $2,000.00, if your actually thinking of this as a job then at least double that and maybe credit him for any fish you really want. This is a big job.
