Me again.
pond (10,000 gallon pool conversion) is now 5 months old. We are in Jacksonville, NE Florida and full sun. Had algae bloom which has now died off. Water is pretty clear but by no means crystal.
there is a GREAT deal of the algae on the bottom. I have a small, 300, gallon bog filter and a small DIY mechanical filter. Milk crates and filter material With pump inside milk crates. Collecting a good amount of algae needing cleaning about twice a week for now Due to all the dead algae bloom. Do I need to get that algae out (buy a vacuum) or just let it rest on the bottom. My concern is will the decaying of algae cause problems.
Appreciate all your help folks.

I would remove it. A vacuum works well.

I don't know much about bogs, but it seems to me that yours is awfully small for that much water. And a small mechanical filter? It seems to me that you need a good bit more filtration. Hopefully someone with more knowledge will come along and chime in.

You’re right on both counts. Still in progress. More plants and larger bog and filter.
thanks

THE accumulated algae at the bottom IF DEAD will decay and is then a food source for more algae, i imagine you can see the viscous circle there. a vac works well, and depending how thick the algae is , a net on a pole will work too though not as well.

Remove; I use what is termed a dirty water subpump, less expensive then a vacuum. i uy the one thatr will hanndle devris upto an inch. so I use a 1" hose on the discharge, put a bag filter( piece of flannel materal sowed to be a bag, secure to discharge hose(length depending on pond depth and size - mine is about 4') . pump through the filter bag that is in the pond so the cleaned water stays in the pond. when full just turn insideout wash with hose and do it again - easy to tell when mine is full as it swells up like a ballon.
The vacuum, though, you have ability to put the pickp where needed - then just use the bag on the discharge so the filter water goes back into the pond

Question for you @CLippincott28 - why is the algae dead? My pond cycles through algae growths all year long but we never actually see any dead algae. It just ceases to grow, or a new form grows in its place. (pretty cool process actually). So I'm curious why you're seeing dead algae.

You will never regret buying a good vacuum.
