Hello all -

am planning to build a koi pond (14 ft x 14 ft) with a separate veggie filter designed as a waterfall / steam flowing into the pond (4 ft x 20 ft). Any design ideas / diagrams / pictures on how to build one that’s easy to back wash in case needed?

thanks,

j.w

@Nw koi
Lots here use bogs for filters and can help you. I'm sorry I did not attach one to my pond long ago.

Welcome @Nw koi ! Enter "bog" into the search bar on this forum and you'll find a wealth of information. There's a pinned post that @addy1 did on bog building - that's a great one to start with.

Thanks much for the warm welcome. I am reading through the incredible content and will likely be back with specific questions ;)

@j.w ; any chance you'll be adding a bog to yours in the future? Just curious!
Nope, no room for one the way I built it but really I suppose I could but it would be too much changing around of everything so no way. Maybe if we ever move to a new place. I did not know about bogs when I built it, sad to say!

I'm guessing when you say veggie filter, you mean your going to plant veggies in a bog filter.
That's great!
Like many here, I was inspired by addy's successful bog.
Here's my bog build:

A stream or settling chamber with hyacinth are some of the greatest natural filter that exist. Then as the hyacinth multiply throw them in the pond for the koi to munch on.

The bog is what your asking about but if for veggies on top of that you just need to make raised beds for your veggies that only like wet feet. Just like farmers with there rows and plant a top ofvthe row soil stays moist 24 /7 and its fertilized by one of the kings in fertilizer today fish poop, manja
