Dividing lotus

i have a lotus that I did not replant this year but now it has a runner over the side. The new runner has roots and has put off one leaf that I think is going to be an arias not a coin. Has anyone cut a runner off and planted it? If so did it mature and bloom. I don’t want to replant whole lotus and didn’t know if cutting the runner off would endanger the original plant. Thanks for any input from experience with this.
