I'm sure not all of you will care but I made a little pump filter today out of a £3 shoe box and some hose fittings 🤣 works perfectly.

my first filter was a tote done the same way and it worked great for a small pond but then I went bigger and bigger . Those filters work great for smaller ponds , I al going to reuse my old one for my preformed lily pond

Show a picture of how you set up the inside! Is the lid just resting on top or is there some type of seal or latch?

really you don't need a lid on a filter . Problem with lids is you can't see when filter media gets clogged and then when you aren't expecting it lid will get pushed off and water will spill out and empty the pond

Another issue with covers is oxygen. Or lack of you want to feed oxygen to your filters that are also biological.

There are few bad filters they mostly better than nothing at all. Bit like mentioned when covered it's hard to see if it is about to overflow. For that purpose I like a high side container. But I am the extreme I go big, im obsessed with my pond.
