I made a tank out of a new trash can with a 5 gallon bucket set up as a skippy filter for it. The bucket spills back into the trash can with about a 8" drop. Wondering if that is enough oxygen being put into the water. I have some water lettuce in the top of the filter and some water hyicent in the tank, those will create oxygen during the day but will they take up too much at night? I could always pull them before I go to sleep or is that nessesary

those plants create oxygen all the time but not in the water, in the air. a trash can is pretty deep..you can get a pump, line, and air stone for about $10.00 at pet smart...it should be fine because of how far up the bubbles will have to travel along with what the water return will add. better safe than sorry!!
