Drain Outlet not working

My Laguna filter works well: water inlet and water outlet are doing what they should do. However, when I go to clean (backwash) the foam filters, water does not come out the drain outlet even though the Mode Indicator is where it should be (turned to the drain outlet). A trip to my local garden/fish center has not diagnosed the problem. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Are you keeping the pump running when you backflush?

Does the handle turn the valve or is it slipping and not engaged? Is the back flush line clogged?
