Hi all, Havent been visiting he site often, not much to talk about as far as the pond goes I guess.

We have a very warm winter up until the blizzard a week before christmas, until then the ground was cold enough to freeze the pond, there might be a little ice on top inthe mornings, but by afternoon it was gone.

Right before the blizzard i finally shut down the pumps and threw the heater in. Here are a few pictures of it after. This was the next morning after the blizzard I believe, it froze very fast. I now have the heater on a timer that runs for about 2 hours in the afternoon, and 4 hours at night. so the hole in the ice isnt usually this big anymore. if you look close you can see the fish down there at the bottom.

Back to work tomorrow, I cant believe my vacation is over already. But I spent the past 4 days laying on the couch nursing my back and tailbone that I slammed into a culvert while takin my son sledding, so that kind of blew the second half of my vacation right there.

Hope everyone else had happy and safe holiday season!

Good to see you 99. Your heater is doing it's job I see. I never had a pond heater and prolly never will,no need here although last night was pretty chilly. No ice on the pond tho. Sorry about your meet up w/ the bad culvert and hope you mend quickly :)

Even when we had our -6* temps for a few days here the little aquarium air pump w/ tiny stone attached and another water tube bubbler was able to keep holes in the ice so think I'll never need one but then I should never say never so I won't B)

Sorry about your meet up w/ the bad culvert and hope you mend quickly :)

Im feeling much better than I did on saturday, I laid there for a good 10 minutes or so deciding whether or not i had it in me to stand up and walk back up the hill,or if paramedics were going to have to be called.

I finally got back up... I couldnt let that hill keep me down, especially after I just told my son "Its not scary, watch I'll go first".

Ahh, thanks for sharing your ice pics [no pun intended]. Doubt that I'll ever get to see that here, so it's nice to see what ice actually looks like! Hope your back recovers.

Very nice. thx for sharing. Heh, I got the same heater.

My previous heater's filament got screwed up so I was procrastinating on getting a heater so just went out and got one at our farm supply store, same one ya are using. Tried to go without a heater, just my aerators to disturb the surface area, and quickly gained a good inch layer of ice everywhere except where my stream entered the watergarden. Past couple days temps been the same as yours, hi-tmps in 20s *F, and lows in the single digits *F. My watergarden is so small that the heater has pretty much prevented a good 2/3s of the water from freezing over.

Heh, like my dad says ... "Pain is just your body talking. Mind can think everything is fine." Of course though, my dad's knees have been shot for 20 years, literally walking with bone grinding. His knees would sometimes slip out of socket, causing him to fall, then he'd just put it back in and start walking again. He's one of those guys that don't like doctors. Welp, with the stress and other stuff, his blood pressure finally got so high he'd start blacking out so he finally went to get both of them fixed a couple months ago. Heh, the surgeon was amazed my dad was still walking due to how the bones were worn. Wish I inherited his pain tolerance.

Mine was from farm and fleet too, does a good job, that hole was after about 12 or so hours, It would probably thaw most of the pond if I left it on, but its only running 6 hours a day. I don't even want to know what my electricity bill would be if i ran it 24/7

Crusblette, totally understand your dad not liking the doctors, I'm the same way. My mother slipped because of a leaking pop machine in a Hardees she worked at when she was 18 years old. Slipped a disc in her back, Fairly common surgery now, but back then they had no idea what they were doing and her surgery messed her up more then the initial injury. 28 or so years later, hundreds of hours in physical therapy, surgeries, pain specialists, and god knows how much money for her back problems, and now hip and knee problems (because of how she walks with her bad back) Needless to say, after growing up watching my mom in pain, and visiting her in hospitals after countless surgeries to try to repair the first one, I'm not a fan of doctors or hospitals in general.

Anyways, after some internet searching on bruised and broken tailbones I find out doctors can't really do anything for either cept load you up on drugs, and I don't need those, so no point in going to get x-rays to find out which one it is.

Pond is still looking good, I must have gotten most of the leaves out because the water isn't turning brown at all, i can still see the fish don there at the bottom through the hole in the ice. The holidays are over, so this snow and cold is welcome to go at anytime now. I'm ready to get the pond back up and running, motorcycle rides, and enjoying the outdoors again.
