Im completely new and need advice on the duck pond im trying to make. I have the hole already but no im unsure if i did it correctly.

I have a gradual slope that goes from one side that is shallow to the end which is 3 ft deep. The 3 ft deep side has no slope, just a shelf. I was going to use a pond liner but want to make sure this looks okay first. Any and all advice is much appreciated.

Hi Mrs. MDZ. Ducks are very, very messy creatures, and that hole is pretty deep. How do you plan on dealing with all of their waste? Netting things out won't work well with such a deep, narrow pit. Ducks don't really need such a deep hole, surface area is what they like best so they can swim around.

Looking at your deep pit, I'm wondering how you plan to change the water? And filter it? And deal with the heavy nutrient load? When you choose a pump, choose one that can move a huge amount of water, and send it into an external filter that can be easily cleaned and drained out. And consider a very large bog type of filter, that can be drained of muck, grow a lot of plants to help with water quality.

I used to have ducks, and they were so very messy. I had a plastic kiddie pool for them, the kind that has hard sides and is about 5' across. They loved being in the water, but it got disgusting after 3 days and we'd dump it. It probably would have been easier to put in a drain plug down near the bottom, something at least 1" diameter that could be opened up instead of picking the thing up and tipping it over as we did.
