They could cause water issues but honestly it depends on the setup you have. I get wild ducks everyday of the year. At times I have had over 20 of them it the pond. I never had issues with water quality but I do have good filtration and water circulation on my pond.

Ducks are cute and fun to watch but are filthy creatures in water. Like RobAmy stated it really depends on your set up...Ducks show up ever spring to my 300 gallon raised water feature (pond) and they always throw off my water clarity and add extra nutrients ( not wanted) into my system...always a challenge especially early in the season since the plants are not going full filter mode yet.
