Evening out spillway

Second attempt where first was to have the spill line angled to account for an even base. I used a wedge this time (if you can't tell, the bubble of the leveler is in the middle). I watch the water get to every groove of the gutter at the same time, but when it spills over, the dispersal is uneven. I mess with the wedge to see if I can even things out after the fact, but nothing seems to work.

I'm trying to do something like this and have convinced myself it's possible at a lower scale (both a smaller spillway and less pressure).

Hello and welcome!

Can you give us a little more information to go on? All I got was that your spillway doesn’t look like the one in the picture. More information and pictures would be helpful.

Welcome to our forum!

The slightest bit of lower edge of the spillway, with low water flow, the water will go over that spot, easiest return.

AgRee with everyone more water flow. Also while the bubble in the level pictured is in the middle it looks like it is off center in the middle favoring one of the centering lines...could just be the angle of the pic though. If you want the water to come off in a nice looking sheet you need the right amount of flow and/or the surface it is coming off needs to be pretty much perfectly flat.

UNFORTUNATLY you can go to the store and buy 10 levels and i will bet you 7 out of the ten are not what I would call as levell. If you take your level place it on a board mark the levels position. Flip the level put the right side to where tge left side was does it read the same? Now flip the level place the top of the level so its now tge bottom . Then flip that right to left. How was the results?
Like others had said its easier to get what looks like even flow with more water. The less flow any flaws will show with the water if the weir has a qlittle belly etc.

Angling the stone back making it puddle on top can help but it may also want to run under the falls stone.

Thanks all for the welcomes and advice! Sorry it has taken so long to get back here. We discovered a leak by way of the water lowering. Drained it, patched a known trouble spot and have filled it again to see if that was it (I don't think it was). Was hoping to have it done in reasonable time to test theories without much delay but that ship sailed.

Anyway, I have another small pump that does over double this one (74 vs 211 gpi or so). I thought I had tried that (though the tube from pump to spillway was the same) to the same result, but will make some more modification and report back.
