feeding fish pre winter

i live in bucks county pa and looking to see what to feed the fish in the coming months?

Most go to a wheat germ based food as the water cools. Below 55 I quit feeding.

Why wheat germ?

Is that for goldfish as well as koi?

Wheat germ digests easier and won't sit in their guts and rot which can kill them. Yes it's the same for koi and goldfish.

J.W. do you have to buy that feed online or does Petco stores have it?

I would think they would have it in the store but might cost ya more. Give them a call and ask them at the nearest store to you.

Petsmart carries it. Look in the pond section. It was not that bad of a price around 11 dollars or so. I didn't even go through one bag.

Thanks, JW. I should have figured that out -- it's the same with my box turtles. As "brumation" time approaches, I begin cutting the protein from their diet. Same reason.

I feed the tetra too... Here, it is a common food in most of the pet/feed stores.
