The past few years I used the Laguna Once-A-Year Fertilizer Spike - they lasted about a year - probably should have swapped after 8 or 9 months in Florida, but they were good.

They are sold out everywhere, which is a shame, they were fantastic.

I transferred some native grass from a local lake, it's been growing great, but the lilies and bamboo need fertilizer. The once a year aspect as great, I could set and forget.

What are people using?

I use the slow release Osmocote pellets. If not redoing the pot, poke a hole in the planting medium, fill with pellets and cover.

I never get a year out of any fertilizer. Agree with @JRS, Osmocote works but any fertilizer with N,P &K (plus your fish) will work for most pond plants.

Debating pulls the spikes out, cleaning them, and refilling with Osmocote or similar. The spikes made swapping it out pretty painless.
