I've recently considered getting a pond in my back yard so first things first it will have to be an above ground pond which is not a problem as I want to use bricks to build the shape/size of the pond.

I don't really know much about setting up ponds and have watched a few videos on youtube where people have build up ponds and it looks fairly easy but I have a few questions.

Once I've built the shape/size of the pond with bricks do I have to put anything on the bricks inside the pond where the liner will go as I've seen on youtube people concrete this, why?

How do I know how much liner to buy?

Where is my best place to buy the filter from and pump?

Thanks.

It is a wall inside of a wall and the liner is over the top of the inside wall and I used boards to top it .This is underground by over 2 feet though

I dug the hole and then on the top I put concrete block filled with dirt and packed solid and then did the retaining wall block around .I put styroam around the out side of the concrete block and then back filled with a mix of mulch and dirt as extra insulation .Before I got to high I installed the liner and tucked it down over the concrete block and then finished back filling with mulch and dirt and topped it with marble chips to brighten the sides of the pond up .I put boards on top of the liner and the sheer weight of the 2x12 's hold it in place .The corners i put big rocks on to hold the corners tight .I don't have the build because i did it by myself .Last things were bridge and waterfalls and filters I built .trying to show the 2 parts in the pics if you look close you can see the inside part ,Sidewalk side was the easiest part

I'm not 100% sure on how big my pond can be I will get measurements for it but I know it will have to be above the ground and built up as my back yard is full concrete. Where is my best place to buy the pond liner from? As regards to a waterfall I will have to just use an ornament and put a pump into it as my back yard isn't too big to create a fancy one.

I bought my rubber liner from a roofing company. Sometimes you can find them cheaper there if they have left over remnants and it is safe to use w/ fish. I've had mine for years and fish are fine. Just lay it out and hose it off first.
