i had some angst over the approaching winter.
i've always tended warm blooded animals.
now i see the nature in it, and the best i can do,
is the best i can do for them during the warmer months.

I get nervous every Winter and early Spring. I had some disasters in my first couple of years, and even though I know better now, and have had two successful winters, I still worry that something is gonna go wrong. Nothing I can do until Spring, though, so I try not to worry about it.

If I could somehow control the weather..... But I can't, and that's what worries me, the one year it stayed abnormally below freezing for weeks I almost lost my fish.

I always worry and I have been wintering my ponds since 1991! Although I use a big 1500 watt heater for extreme cold and I built cold frames over the two upper deepest ponds where the koi are.

To be honest it looks like you have lots of ice and I would really worry if I was just using that pond thing you have... My koi are very big and our weather is very extreme, and they would not do well with that pond breather you have...
