Probably not normal... seems like a parasite, or bad water quality, but we really need for information, how long has this been going on, what type of fish are doing this, has anything changed recently ect.

@420benz Please tell us again about your pond. How big is it? If you test your water, what are the results of those tests?

If I recall, a month or so ago you added some new fish.

Yes, it could be normal behavior, and especially so since our weather has been so crazy lately (your fish could be spawning if they got their signals mixed up). But, as @TheFishGuy said, it could be parasites. We need more information.

Pond size: 700.00 Gal.
About 10 fish
Water is ok except for hi pH. The gold fish is about 4 in.long and I only seen it do this twice.

Keep an eye on them and watch for any other changes in their condition or their behavior — since you only saw it happen twice. Is it warming up where you are?

Your first post said 'they are jumping' so is it just the one fish or more than one? I agree with the above, test your water. How large are your other 9 fish?

Every once in a while I will have a fish jump. I think they are jumping at bugs sometimes.

This is another concern with these fish. They seem to hide for days without moving. I will retest the water.

I can't see well enough to be sure but does that fish have white slime on it or is that its natural coloration? And is its tail wedged in the rocks or am I imagining that?

What temperature is your water? When it's cold the fish do tend to hide and/or not move much. Running tests on water quality is never a bad idea if you're concerned about anything. It's always the first step in determining what, if anything, is the problem.

It won’t let me get a view of the fish, only loads the top half of the picture. Nice counters, but not the focus of this topic! ( mumble mumble, stupid phone, stupid internet ). Look the body over for any damage. Weird discoloring, blobs, red gills, and so on. It could be that the fish had a pre existing issue, and died from that. Or, since you had seen jumping and flashing, there might have been a parasite. Keep an eye on the others.

How do the test's look? And if there is a parasite what can be done about it?
