Is there such a thing? Is there a mixture of fish that won't breed with each other? I wouldn't mind a few swimmers but do not want to deal finding homes for new fish so I was wondering if I could get 2 fish that would like each other but wouldn't, you know, LIKE each other.

get male fish only or female fish only :)

or get male guppies. They are easy to identify as male and they could be in your pond year round. My guppies are still in the pond and the weather is about 60s. They can take cold at night and warmer in the day.

Someone had mentioned that but said I'd have to find someone with adult fish and even then it's somewhat of a guessing game. I'm going to look at the make guppy fish. I'm not 100% certain I want fish but I am considering it.

I think you can try ebay for goldfish. Male goldfish will have that white pimple on their cheeks and fin when they are ready to mate. Some will show in the picture when you look closely at it. So if you see the pimple, it's sure a male. Just dont buy the one with nothing on it coz it can go either male or female.
Or try raingarden.com. They tell you what they are.

I don't think I have nearly the filtration requirements for the Koi. My understand is they are way worse as far as waste than goldfish are. I guess I was thinking 2 fish might balance out my pond in terms of providing fertilizer for the bog and plants and eating some of the algae.

T, I started out w/ 12 feeder goldfish and now over 13 yrs later I have only about 40 fish and some I bought and added to the group cuz I wanted more color variation. I did not feed my goldfish at all for the first several years and they did not multiply at all. You do not need to feed goldfish. They did not multiply because they had to fend for themselves. Ate whatever worms, bugs fish eggs or plants that they encountered. If you don't feed them they won't multiply and you will never be over run w/fish. If you feed them you will start to get babies but really not that fast cuz they still will eat their own. Just throw in a few goldfish and enjoy. What's the worst that can happen....................leaving that open just in case you get some really prolific goldies and I take no responsibility for trying to talk you into this and I'm not signing anything in blood

Maybe there is a liquid birth control you can add to the water that won't kill the fish of course............cuz that would be a sure fire way of control but cruel and unusual to say the least...............the killing is what I mean. Oh I think I need my walk now, my brain is getting scrambled

And then just when I went to push post reply................koi guy pops up w/ porno....................................leaving now o_O

Hehe, hubby doesn't care he just doesn't want me to whine about them being cold in the winter. Daughter doesn't care, as long as she doesn't have to deal with fish poo. It's all about me and my issues.
And let's be fair j.w, you aren't far from insanity already...:nurse::wacky::wacky:
And it's a big commitment. I have commitment issues...
