Hello,

I work in a department for water quality. We run a class to demonstrate different types of erosion. In the lab we use fountain pumps. I am currently reworking a system to improve it.

My question is. IF a pump if running up a tube to a closed valve with no pressure release will this harm the pump and blow it out? If so, how do i find out how much pressure needs to be released to not burn the pump out but also keep the system pretty basic.

Thank you!!

If you are speaking of leaving a direct drive pump running with no release of pressure for more than a few hours, then Yes the pump may overheat. If you are speaking of the same scenario with a mag-drive pump, then there should not be any real concern as there is not much to be damaged in a mag-drive.
