I have lots of baby koi that are free to a good home. I had a large flock spawn last spring, and thought that nature would take its course over the winter...it did not. The female who spawned was a yellow ogon, so the colors turned out spectacular: lots of bright oranges and metallics! They're perfect for anyone who wants some pretty, pond-grade fish to enjoy.

My pond is quite large, so once I get some interested owners, I'm planning on putting out a minnow trap to catch as many as I can. You're welcome to sort through them once I put them in the temporary tank. Take as few or as many as you want. (You're also welcome to try to catch them yourself, if you have the equipment and/or patience.)

Couple of notes:
  • The sizes range from 1" to 5". There are a mix of butterfly and normal koi. I've included a few photos of them, including one with my 12" fish for scale. (The adult koi are not being rehomed.)
  • Pick-ups would need to be in person, since I don't have a way to transport them.
  • Please quarantine them before adding them to your pond! One of my adult koi came out of winter hibernation with Saprolegnia, and is currently being treated. It hasn't spread to the other koi, but you can never be too careful!

Lots of colorful koi to choose from, hope they find good homes :)
Thanks! I wish I could keep some of the orange ones, but unfortunately no orange fish has ever lasted more than a year in my pond. They're the first ones the local predators go after for some reason. Even goldfish aren't safe. Had a beautiful 12" comet a few years back...until a mink got into the pond.

Unfortunately, no amount of deterrent will stop every heron, kingfisher, mink, snapper, water snake, bullfrog, etc. The best I can do is re-home the fish that are most likely to be on the menu!

Keep in mind koi need appx 500 to 1000 gals of water for each fish when fully grown. How large is your pond?

It is apx 16' x 12' x 3' .
So around 4,300 or so gals. So if you use 500 gals per fish you would need a 6000 gal pond. If you have some really good filtering you might get away w/it. If you use the 1000 gal per fish, only maybe 4 fish or so. That pump size selection down there I think would need to be bigger IMO. I have a 2400 gal pond and I use a 4200 GPH pump twice the size of my pond appx. I only have goldfish.

I'm sorry. I guess I misunderstood. I thought you had baby Koi. I can get goldfish locally. If you are located where I think you are (near Baltimore) that would be to far to drive for just 4 goldfish. Thanks anyway.

Obviously I thought you were the person with free baby Koi. Thanks for the pond info. Do you know of any type filtration system that attaches to an outside water faucet? Right now I have to replace the pond water that has evaporated one bucketful at a time. That is the only way I know that works in order to add the neutralizer to get rid of the chemicals in the normal tap water. It takes a lot of buckets to bring the water level up just a couple of inches. There must be a better way?

I have a well and don't need to add those chems. Others here may be able to help you on that issue better. I think most just dump it in as they fill the pond w/a hose. Not sure of the amount tho.

@Yvonne Bishop do you know about Shubunkin goldfish? The ones that looks kinda like koi w/a different color patterns. You could add a bunch of those to your pond as they don't get huge like koi do.

Before we closed our pond I used a product called Pond Prime to remove chlorine and chlorimides...it also reduces ammonia . I don't believe you can overdose it, so I would add a cap full of when I topped off the pond which covered the entire volume of the pond.
