Hi All,

Been meaning to post for a while. I started building my pond around august this year. Wanted to drop some photos of the progress. I'm still working on the landscaping and won't finish until next spring. This started out as a small <10' diameter footprint, the scope creep slowly took over and increased to ~14' x 25' with a small beach area and steps from 1' down to 3.5' depth under the waterfall, I have an up-flow bog filter on the backside with a waterfall down into the pond connected to a 500 GPH pump with 2" plumbing. The waterfall from the bog filter is still WIP, I didn't want to commit to anything at first with pond foam in case I changed my mind. I also picked up 7 sarasa comets and 1 chunky ryukin goldfish (quickly has become my favorite.). One thing to note was my girlfriend was on the fence with this project, so I've been trying to complete everything on a shoestring budget (I think she only agreed so I’d stop showing her pictures and talking about it). So far, I've been able to keep the build at less than ~$600. Largest cost being the liner and pump. The whole family has come to enjoy the pond so far and we are looking forward to planting some more bog plants in the spring and finishing up the landscaping. Thanks to this community, I have used this site so often when researching and building my pond. : )

Have a great day.
Adam

One thing I would have done w/your pond was to build a short step down ledge to put rocks on to hide the liner. Kinda looks like you may have done this but just not filled the pond up all the way yet? Something like this:

i did put an edge around and your right i don't have it filled in all the way. I intend on getting a truckload of 6"-12" rock in the spring to help fill in and i will also use some plants, moss and driftwood to help give a natural look. I also have plenty of liner left to work with if more of a step is needed too. I know it my look a bit rough around the edges now, but I'm so excited to finish making it pretty this spring :). i Appreciate the thoughts and picture.

I know pond foam is all the rage but back in the 90's we didn't have it and made great ponds. Try not to use it if you can. the foam is quick and easy but you can accomplish what you need without it, just takes longer and more patience with your materials and some planning. I have no foam in mine but it's not a traditional liner-rock pond.

Its all sand I have been working on long island myself the
Ast 7 months, the digging is so easy its ridiculous, but with that if they do have the sugar sand it can be challenging to maintain the sides from falling in.

if your not familiar koi market is on long island they have a shipment from Japan all. Hand picked.
What size and style are you going to build.

Is that Young man in the pond the builder or the benefactor

interesting! Here in clay country we wouldn’t even think of digging until spring thaw.
