I have 1 little fry that survived the spawning this summer. (First summer with the pond). It is about 1 1/2" long. Just starting to change color.
Do you think he can over winter in the pond with my bigger goldies. I am zone 5. First winter to leave any of my fish out side.

Hoping the best for my bigger fish but don't know know about the little fry.

I also have a fantail goldfish I got this summer. He is about 2" and quite plump. Can he stay outside in the pond also?

Thanks
Kristi

I'm in WA state and my fish and fry have always stayed outside during the winter, as long as your pond is 2.5ft deep you're ok. We have snow and the pond is iced over. I don't even break the ice. Their metabolism slows way down and they just hunker down at the bottom of the pond.

Yes pond is 3' -31/2' deep. Good, was hoping he would be ok in there.

Will run an air pump and keep a floating heater on the ready.
