Think it's gonna be hard to convince the same, slowly growing userbase to fund the site via a new donation drive every single month. Maybe there ought to be a $15 annual membership that comes with a few members-only benefits. 120 paid members and the site is self-sustaining. Do a membership drive once per year to replace those who drop out and Bob's your uncle.

I don't know about the ponding world, but other communities have buying groups where they can get member only pricing from industry vendors for popular products. Set up something like that, maybe a private forum, ad-free browsing, and some silly badge that makes us feel superior. I'd pay $15/year for that. Love this place.

I've run boards before and they were free; I just did a quick search and found this link

pro boards

Not trying to mess Ian up (and I apologize, but donations have been pushed to the fore by this thread) but it seems GPF could be totally free for everyone, as I once thought it was.

A good board is made from it's core members, not from commercialism, imo.

I belong to a boating forum and the site sells all kinds of boating parts and accessories. It's a regular online supply for boating.
I believe this is how they fund the forum side of it.
Members of the forum get a discount too.
