Hi everyone ,just wondering if anyone has seen a fan tail like mine ,it's about 6yrs old now and doesn't seem to be distressed ,she feeds ok swims all over the pond ,I don't think she has swim bladder problems because her buoyancy looks ok she's been like this for a few years now I think she's just happy and fat any ideas please

That looks wild! First blush I'm thinking some illness like dropsy but if she's been like this for a few years.....
Some kind of benign tumor? I'll let the experts weigh in.

That fish won't be long for this world; l'm pretty sure she's egg-bound. That is not normal. Sorry.

I agree that the fish has a problem. It could be a tumor or egg binding. Fish with tumors can live for several years.

Also, I don't see a fantail. Looks like a single tailed fish in the pictures, maybe a common goldfish.

Agree with everyone else — dropsy, tumor, egg-bound…..something, but not normal. As long as the fish seems happy, leave it alone.

Many years ago we went to a fish place at the end of summer. They had one shubunkin left that the guy said he would sell to us at half price cause her stomach was enlarged on one side and nobody wanted it. So we bought her. She looked funny cause she looked curved all the time. She swam good and ate good. I never messed with her, just kept my eye on her thinking she wouldn't live very long. I really didn't think she would make it through the winter. That fish lived around 10-11 years :ROFLMAO:

About 15 years ago, a customer asked me to take a look at one of his goldfish and tell him what I thought. It looked identical to your fish, but was a red-orange colour. The fish had been like that for 3 or 4 years, and was eating well and acting as if nothing was wrong. He (the customer) came back the following year to tell me the fish had died, but was still eating the evening before. My thought is, it's probably a tumour of some sort, but the fish would have to be sacrificed to find out, so enjoy it while it lives.
