This summer was just all about getting some plants growing in the bog. Next summer I'd like to add some color , like cana lilies. Do you plant the bulb directly in the bog? Do you lift the bulbs over the winter?

With the cannas i have left them in the pot and just let the feet get wet as they are a seasonal plant here in new england. and i have taken them out and put them in a depression planter in the liner but there didn't seem to be a difference between the two. But they were also different types

Have some canna planted in a planting bed that comes back every year. Have yet to get one to come back in the bog, but I think those aren’t hardy to my zone.

Shot of the cleopatra canna, of course hurricane/tropical storm took out the half red and yellow flower.

I don’t leave anything in pots except for the yellow flag iris and some how it still is popping up along the edges of the pond.

@Tula I plant cannas directly in the bog. They are SO HUGE this year it's unbelievable. They've quadrupled in width and are at least 4 feet high.

@GBBUDD is that canna a dwarf variety?

Not sure it's only three foot tall to the top of the leaves 5 ot 6 to the flower tips so i guess thats a no its a little shorter then say the red maroon leaves and blood red flower

Just got home from being away for a month and the pond, the design and the fish are as i hoped to achieve. The water is crystal clear the algea is peach fuzz and a few other types in different locations. The health of the fish and the activity is all I could have only dreamed of in the beging . So anyone who is questioning what type of filter to use i say there is no other THEBOG. is so minimal in maintenance does an incredible job and if left alone it only gets better. My evidence tonight is phone photos of the pond where you can see with minimal light down 6 feet. The two fish in the attached were coming home untill the one on the right desided to jump out and knock its self out. And at the number they wanted I wasnot willing to take the risk

That’s too bad that is a cool looking koi.

Yeah, bogs are definitely the way to go, I am all about minimal maintenance when it comes to my ponds, as in feeding the fish and weeding back the more aggressive plants. Never been gone for a month from mine, but have been for two weeks and everything was fine.

damn spell check chances the words when you dont want it to and when u ou could use the help nada... kinda like tge gover n ent today.

Speaking of which we lost a Supreme Justice last night . She was definitely a strong woman and a loud voice in the halls of justice. now i may not have agreed with alot that she did i respect her for having the desire to help make America what it is today. But unfortunately even though she is not even in her final resting place the political crap has already begun and so many calling for more riots more unrest if Trump names anyone they don't like. I pray that everyone who wants a socialist country to go there. Go to anyone of the hundreds of those countries for a year then come back and let it s know what you think then .
