Hi
Ive got about 7 goldfish in my pond and 1 seems not happy
All the rest are really good eating well and very alert . The fish in question is sluggish and seems to be gasping?? But trying to eat ??
I have 2 pumps and a new filter going well
So im perplexed why this fish is struggling?? All the rest are very happy??
Any advise please...
Regards kevin.

Hi Kevin, you mention new filter... I am thinking ammonia. Gasping fish usually indicates lack of dissolved oxygen in the water or ammonia poisoning. How many fish and how large is your pond? Two pumps? Air pumps or water pumps? I suggest you test your water parameters quickly.

Hi Stephen
Thanks for the reply. I have a 2500 litre pond with only about 6 or 7 small fish all eating and very alert except this one??
The pump and filter are working well together creating a decent agitation for oxygen, so i am confused.
As you mentioned i will need to get a water test...
Regards kevin...

Hi Stephen
Think ive found the problem,
Watching more closely the fish in question is being chased and battered due to spawning behaviour, so we've isolated it for the time being.
I did also purchase a water test kit...
Many thanks kevin.

Glad you figured it out. Spawning is darn hard on the females

Hi
Would anyone have any idea when it would be ok to put back female goldfish to the main pond after isolating them due to this aggressive spawning behaviour??
Cheers kevin.
