Somebody mentioned growing water lilies bare root. If this is possible how would one go about doing it? If it works it sure seems like a no fuss no muss way of growing them. How do you get them to stay where you want them...........in a plant basket with screen over the top and weighted down? Do they just get nutrients from the fish pond water? I really would like to do this next spring if it will really work

you plant them in peagravel and 1" - 2" stones.... in a pot, i use oil change pans (8" deep and 15" diameter) mesh planter baskets work great but i'm cheap! and the oil pans allow alot of growth room....this is bare root planting or some folks will just tuck the rhyzone between some larger stones.usually in rocked ponds
oil pans.........about $1.75 @ MEIJERS, WALMARTS etc....

I have used pea gravel and kitty litter clay (the cheap, just clay stuff) also have grown them just in the pond like they say weighted down with rocks.

I like the idea of just weighing them down w/ rocks as you don't have to mess w/ the muck and all the transplanting every Spring :regular_waving_emot
