Hi All,
Have a round fibreglass in ground pond 550 gallons. Rescued some goldfish from elderly neighbour 10 days ago.
Long story, but found a home for her koi and the goldfish were put in my pond, which previously had nothing in it, except water lillies
Put in a Hozelock 900 pump, but made BIG mistake!!
Didn't cap off the fountain outlet, so a rubbish at the bottom stirred up, and now water is muddy brown!!
Have ordered a new filter, water test kit, carbon filter for hose, but is there anything I can do now?
Forgot to say I put in some sludgbuster, and a little better, but still muddy...
Fish seem Ok at min, but obviously not ideal situation...
Any practical help please?

xx

You could do a very slow water change of clean water in while yuck water out at the same time. I would not recommend the sludge buster stuff myself. Do you have well water? If not then don't forget dechlorinater added to the city water.

I also recommend staying away from any chemicals or any clarifier snake oils.

It sounds to me, as you described, that it's just silt stirred up from the bottom. Give it time and it will settle as long as there's not too much bottom disturbance. Try to keep you pump's outlet closer to the water surface. Surface movement is also a good oxygenizer.
