Hello, I'm in the south coast of BC Canada, north of Vancouver. We inherited a small pond when we bought this property two years ago. It's approx 1,050 US gallons by my best guess, and shallow from 12"-18" deep. It had two goldfish when we bought about 6" long each. However racoons seems to have gotten them over the first winter. I put new goldfish in last summer and ended up using carpenter's cloth wire mesh to keep the racoons out. Since then I have had a custom pond cover made to protect both my pond plants and my fish which are now 5-6" long. I have two hardy lilies in the pond and in summer use water hyacinth for water clarity and just planted a canna in there for the summer. I also have one tropical lily I need to plant just waiting on temps to get warmer. I'm in zone 6b. This is my first pond so I'm a newbie!
