Hello to all & thank you for allowing me to join your forum.

I'm retired & live in Devon, I've had a pond of 5mtrs x 3mtrs for a number of years & keep 8 koi that have grown from babies to the large ones they are today.

A recent problem with a torn liner (caused by Acer roots) meant that I had to carryout a quick reline of the pond & with cloudy water I sought advice which lead me here

welcome and new ponds are a hassle .I have had to replace my liner 3 times and used koi clay to clear up the water .It makes it cloudy but using a filter mat in a temporary filter like I did works great .The koi clay binds with everything and takes it to your filter faster

Before you place a new liner or do repairs I would get some sort of material between the roots and the liner. I would look at concrete blanket. It's dry concrete on a mat that once you place it it absorbs moisture from the ground and wa la concrete wall heavy and expensive from what i have heard.
I have also used myself on the outside of my cistern where both tree roots and Glass were an issue for punctures a 1/8" fiberglass that has an asphalt coating , obviously not for use in a pond . it's called a protection base for roofing.
And i have also used azek in 1/2" thick sheets.
