It may be a female and the ones chasing are males, I don't think the fish are trying to kill it. When they are spawning it is constant chasing.

Yep I'm thinking too it is a female and the boys just are getting frisky trying to mate w/ her. There will be eggs and some may survive from the big fishies ravenous appetites. Look for little tiny fish in a few days. Try to provide a bunch of plants thrown in or somewhere she can go to rest from the boys.
