Please help me identify what has happened to this fish she's a shabunking goldfish that has been in with all the other fish I'm wondering if she's just sustained severe internal damage from spawning or something like that she's very swollen and her scales are peeling off when I handle her. I'm pretty sure it's too late for her.

The discoloring is exactly where eggs are within the body so leave her be and watch her if there's any overly aggressive males remove them or put hey into a separate tank or pond.

It's possible she got beat up from spawning activity. It also appears it could be a bacterial infection, from the pinkness.

Do you know when this happened? If she was fine before spawning then spawning activity is probably the cause....they can be brutal and I've heard of females being killed. At the very least she needs rest.

Unfortunately, she passed away last night. When I found her, she was floating and already appeared to be in poor condition. I gently squeezed her to check if she was egg-bound, and a number of scales came off along with a brownish-red goo. It looked like there might have been internal bleeding or something similar. I'm not sure what happened. There hasn't been much spawning activity lately, so I’m unsure about that, but I also thought the internal bleeding could be related to spawning.

All the other fish seem fine at this point, but I added some salt and cleaned the pond just to be safe.

I tried everything to help her. We gave her a small Baytril shot, added a little salt to her water, provided aeration, and used a light bacterial treatment powder in the water. She definitely looked like she was in a lot of pain and was scared. It’s so sad. Poor girl. It’s hard being a female.

Added salt and cleaned the pond. Why? To be safe from some unknown thing that those two things may have no affect on?

Sorry. I’m a little salty myself this morning.

Cleaned the filter pads of poop. Did a very small water change and added a small amount of salt. Standard weekly cleaning I needed to do anyways.

Why are you salting your pond? Why are you changing your water? Just some questions to clarify what may be going on with the pond beyond what may seem obvious.

How big is your pond? How many fish? What kind? How old is the pond? What type of filtration do you use? Do you routinely change water, add chemicals or other additives? Any new fish or changes to routines lately?

Spawning can get rough, but let's make sure this wasn't something else involved here.
