Hi everyone, we bought a house in January that had a large (5000 litre) pond already in the garden. There are lots of fish, many types of goldfish - all beautiful. It has been there for some time as the person we bought it off didn't build it. The water was impossibly green you couldn't see your hand even 2" under the water. I have managed to get the filter working and done a full service with new everything. I have sought some advice and the filter is big enough to handle the pond - it is for an 8000 litre pond. It has been going now for 3 weeks and the water itself is clear I can now see the bottom of the pond. But this then showed me a plastic box and a large plant pot that had been left in there. This is now my problem. As I dragged them to get them out of the pond, it threw up a large "cloud" of small particles/dust which then clouded the water again. 1. Do I clean the sides? 2. How do I clean the "dust cloud" ? 3. Should I clean the pump? Any other help please because we really want to get this sorted as the fish are beautiful to watch as we can see them when they come up to feed.

Give it some time the particles will settle back out or go into the filter. Or you can run the water through quilt batting to remove some of the particles.

When we clean filters we never want to make them look new . the bacteria that takes time to grow is liquid gold. Even the algae has its place. rinsing filters is generally the best course of action and never do so with city water.
You may want to stir that cloud up from time to time to get it into the water column. The filter will then have a chance to filter it out. You’ll never get rid of it completely - nor should that be the goal - but you can reduce it so it clears faster when you stir it up.
