Hi,

We recently moved into a new house and there's a pond. Can anyone point me in the direction of what i need to replace in the filter? I've attached what's there now.

Cheers.
Drew

I'm not familiar with that particular filter.
In general, most filters have some type of rinseable pads or sponge type filters and maybe some type of bio-balls. Beneficial bacteria grows on the bio-balls. You don't want to clean that good bacteria off the bio-balls, but you can rinse the filter pads.
I see you also have a UV clarifier behind the filter box. It uses UV light to kill algae. The bulb in those units usually needs to be replaced yearly, even if it still lights up.

Thanks. So I can take out the filters and wash them. There's a cylinder running across where the water comes out. That need replacing too?

The bulb being inside UV clarifier?

The cylinder where the water comes out does not need replacing. The filter pad the water is hitting needs to be rinsed. Rinse with pond water if you are on city water so the chlorine does not kill the good bacteria on the pad.

Fill a bucket with pond water and swish the pad around. Water a plant with that water, they will love it.

Great advice from addy as usual. That filter looks nice. So, after you pull the pads out, let us know if there are any bio balls under there. That would make that filter even better.

Cheers. No bio balls. Just plastic. I took out the 5 pads but bit of a nightmare to clean. Now the ponds pretty murky. The water out looks to have cleared up so hoping the pond does too. Will probably buy replacement pads

Those plastic pieces serve the same purpose as bio balls. Maybe I should have explained it better. Bio balls are the most common, so that's what I mentioned.
Any material which has a lot of surface area can be used to sustain beneficial bacteria.
So, you have a good filter there.
The only other concern might be if the filter is large enough for your pond. You didnt mention how many gallons your pond is or the filter's rating. But, if it's keeping the water clean, I wouldn't worry.

Ah ok, makes sense. Cheers for the help.

Would these be ok to replace the pads on there now or are there better options? https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B06XXV9TCK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_PQQ6CbZE7VR99

Not sure size wise. The water didn't look dirty. Will see what I can find out or see if it manages to clear the dirt out now.
I don't see the need to replace them unless they are falling apart or at least looking worn out. Especially if all is good with the water. But, if you want to replace them, it's up to you. Just make sure they are the same size or larger (which certainly can be cut to size).
If everything is looking good with the pond, the water is clear, the fish and plants look healthy, I would leave well enough alone and just sit back and enjoy!

Cheers. Looks to have cleared overnight so will stick with what i have for now. Will look into the UV light too. The whole pond needs a bit of work also.

One more, there's a filter pump box that was left here. Where would that be?

Thanks again

That is a pump, they left you a spare, see if it is new or used.

Not sure about your question. Is that cardboard box empty and you're wondering where that pump would be? If so, it's submerged in your pond. That's what is pumping the water to the filter box and UV light.
And as far as the UV light goes, as long as your water is clear, it's doing it's job or maybe not even needed. If you want, you can unplug it and see if your water stays clear. If algae starts to green up the water, turn it back on.

Cheers. Yeh I meant would it be in the water :D

It's all looking ok and clear so I won't go messing with it. They mentioned leaving a new pump so I'm sure I'll have a question when it comes to changing it.

Cheers everyone
